You Always Had the Power

Day 28 of Joanne Sharpe's class...only one more day to go.  The thing that makes this particular assignment special is the words she had us write.

"You Always Had the Power"

... a quote from the good witch on the "Wizard of Oz".  Hummmm....not loving the whole witch thing but I do love the words!...cause that'll preach!

Anyway, our assignment was to write the phrase ... in black ... on a piece of background paper we had already made for the 2nd journal we made in the class.  That journal is all about COLOR!  So, if it looks like there is color in weird places, that's why... we had to use something we already had.

I will definitely do this phrase again, because I really do believe it... We do, indeed, already have the power... within us, to accomplish the thing we were created for.  I'm really looking forward to finding out what that is!...I'm 58 now ???  But, remember, I did this one a while back, so that *I* could chill about it!

I'll give you a review of the class after the last lesson. :-)

Pilot Parallel Pen for Drawing

.

Just wanted to show a little test I did last week with my new Parallel Pen. (Purchased for lettering in Joanne Sharpe's class)

So quick, so easy, the pen does all the work! (if you hold your tongue just right :-)

Like I said, this was a test, I plan on doing something with a scripture to go with it... for the brokenhearted. ... but I decided to show it now because I just found this fun to watch video where he uses the same pen to draw!  LOVE IT!  And notice he only uses distress rubber stamp ink!

And this is how I stay humble, and wonder how I can even have the nerve to post stuff I do!!!

Brett Weldele:
(you know, I really hope its OK to embed these... I figure since YouTube gives you the code to do it, it must be OK ???)

And, so I don't forget how to do this...

Trust....AGAIN!

I know, I know, how many ways can I write the word "TRUST"?  Sorry, it is just such a good word to write...the way all the letters fit so snugly together.  And it is my 2012 word after all.

The homework for this was to use white pens/markers on black... but I only have one white pen right now so I had to punt.  I decided to use kraft wrapping paper instead of black, just because I like the look. Trust is written with OLD gesso, really too old to use, hence the not great coverage.  The very light white is a white watercolor pencil. ??? Not too sure why you would need that??? but, it did come in handy as a dry pencil.

Let it Rain!

One of my main focuses on Pinterest is searching for ideas for future drawing...so today I spent the WHOLE day, documenting some of the things I have found in a journal...I'm calling it my "Inspirational Journal" ... that way I don't have to sit at my computer to draw the real thing... I'll have it ready for sudden impulses to draw.  I did most of it in pencil...I messed up on a couple of pages when I added ink...it bled through the page and messed up what was already on the back!  ARGH!!!

Anyway, I got 13 pages done today...mostly doodles and words.  This is the last one I did (for today)

I had found a photograph of a girl standing in the rain, umbrella down, soaking in the rain.  I LOVE THAT!  After I got that sketched in I went in search of scriptures that might go with it... I knew there were some that referenced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as rain.
I found a few:  Isaiah 30:23,  Hosea 6:3 and Zech 10:1. (remember, you can just mouse over the reference WITHOUT clicking and the scripture will appear)

There was a note with Hosea 6:3 that mentions that there are two rains in Israel, the former (in the spring during planting season) then another heavier one later that causes the crops to mature.

Pray for the second heavier rain of the Holy Spirit so you can mature in the Lord.

I'll get around to doing "the real thing" one day ???

God Is Watching

Lesson 16 - Using a Parallel Pen
New Love! The pen truly does do the work for you!... I did this on my practice pad while waiting in the hospital waiting room for a friend having minor surgery.  New favorite pen, but it uses a TON of ink...I just went and got more cartridges plus some colored ones...YUMMY!

I Wonder If....????

I was just sitting there watching tv early this afternoon (OK, I was really just waking up from a nap) and started to wonder if I could use colored Sharpies to draw directly onto canvas panels so I started experimenting...and it works!

 This whole thing was an exercise in fixing stuff!  First I completely left the "t" out!!!  CUTE! Unfortunately, I didn't notice that until I had already outlined the "U" and the  "L"!

You know what, I'm not gonna explain all the mess ups, I really just wanted to explain why that "T" looks like an afterthought... it was.

Anyway, another test was using Inktense watercolor pencils and they worked too!!!  I used them to color around the cloud...the red to yellow blend was a red and yellow watercolor pencil!  TOO COOL! ... And it was a blue pencil for the cloud shading.

So, basically, it was a most successful experiment...if only I hadn't forgotten the "T".

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Remember to....

.

Today's challenge, something "Love" using only pinks and reds and purples ... OUCH!!!  NO BLACK?!!!

I did cheat a little, I used blue to shade the edges to make it "puff" more....sorry Joanne....call it purple.

It isn't perfect, but then nothing I do ever is!

Why is There An Easter?

.
.
.

Romans 5:6

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

.

... to bring you out of the darkness and into the light.
.
.

UGH! Lesson 11

I cannot begin to say how painful this particular exercise was!!  UGH! UGH! UGH!  Yes, I love the colors, NO, I HATE THE DESIGN!  We were suppose to use our names to create places to color ... wish I hadn't!  NOT MY THING!  Won't do another one I promise!  BUT, now I have had a chance to practice with the colors so I will use THAT and forget the rest!  UGH!

Please don't pin this one!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't what was taught, it was my interpretation of what she said... UGH!  Stay tuned, I'll do one I'm happy with soon.

Thank you Joanne for forcing me to do something I wouldn't do otherwise...though it was completely PAINFUL!

THE SECRET:
I can say this, because Joanne hasn't (yet anyway).  The secret is THE PAPER! You have got to use watercolor paper to pull off the magic...and I'm thinking the heavier the better (not sure of that one, just thinking)... I used 3 or 4 different color mediums here so it isn't in those, color - yes, magic - no.  Its the paper.

Lesson 8

Psalm 91:14

My Peace

Psalm 91...as much as I could fit on the piece of paper!
(more grid practice from lesson 5)

Psalm 91...is probably one of my favorite chapters in the Bible... shown another way:
(I did this in a different blog last year)

 1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
   will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
   my God, in whom I trust.”
 3 Surely he will save you
   from the fowler’s snare
   and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
   and under his wings you will find refuge;
   his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
   nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
   nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
   ten thousand at your right hand,
   but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
   and see the punishment of the wicked.
 9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,”
   and you make the Most High your dwelling,

10 no harm will overtake you,
   no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
   to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
   so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
   you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
   I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
   I will be with him in trouble,
   I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
   and show him my salvation.”

Trust is My Word

.
In all of my bouncing around the web I have noticed that there are folks that choose a word for each year.  A word that they are going to focus on... so, this is my word for 2012.

I know its my word because it keeps repeating over and over in my spirit.  I have trust God.  I have no trouble "Believing" God (my word for 2011) because I KNOW He can do ANYTHING....but this year He is working on my trust.  Trusting Him even when things don't happen as quickly or according to "man's schedule" (mine, and/or people wanting something from me by a certain time!)  I am getting to practice waiting and not know when God will step in to save the day.  I have to TRUST Him to be my shepherd, to lead me beside the still waters and green pastures, to be my provider.
Psalm 23.

And so it begins.

.

Here are a few pictures of things I've done for Joanne Sharpe's Lettering class.  One thing I really like is that she is not showing us how to do any of the letters, she wants us to use our own handwriting.... No, I don't normally write like this, but you know what I mean, she REALLY jumps right past the "how to dos" to get to the "What to do for homework".  I feel kinda bad for the girls who wanted to learn HOW TO do her letters, because that just isn't happening.  But, there are still 24 more lessons so maybe.

The journal is a regular $1 composition book that I covered with cardstock...sewed it down with my sewing machine, mainly to see if I could.  There are 4 layers of cardstock plus the cardboard book....sewing machine did fine.

Lesson 1 - cover composition book

20 ways to write the word "ART"?

Writing in a "Grid"
add any words to another grid

She wanted us to add color to the bottom two, but I'm resisting...I like them like this....for a while anyway.

Dangerous Promises

This post is a little different... at least until I can get something drawn up.

About 15 years ago I took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace course.  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  Unfortunately it didn't do much good but there are times when something he says flashes back into memory. One is NEVER EVER charge!  That one took a while but I did get rid of all the credit cards...because those people are EVIL!

This just popped into my memory so I want to do something with it.

Another major NO- NO is cosigning for ANYONE... DO NOT DO IT!  He mentioned that we so quickly read over scripture not really comprehending what it is actually saying...  He had done that with Proverbs 6:5 until he saw some nature show of a gazelle trying to escape the hunter.  He noticed that you don't just take that mildly, but you get the heck out of dodge!  Get as far away from it as possible, or it will kill you!

Here is the scripture in context and then a video of a gazelle.  VERY COOL visual!

Proverbs 6

My son, if you become surety for your friend,
If you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,
You are snared by the words of your mouth;
You are taken by the words of your mouth.
So do this, my son, and deliver yourself;
For you have come into the hand of your friend:
Go and humble yourself;
Plead with your friend.
Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids.
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.[a]
