1 Samuel - There is A Price to Pay For Contempt Shown Towards the Lord's "To-Do" List!

I can not express how much I LOVE illustrating my Bible!  I just never really know where I am going to end up.  Prime example is this one...  I started working on 1 Samuel yesterday.  My usual process is to read for a while and do quick drawings as I go, if I think of something right away.  When I got to the story about the two "priest" sons of Eli taking the meat meant to be an offering to the Lord  I looked up synonyms for the word "contempt" and wrote those down in the margin.  Those were:
- Scorn
- Disrespect
- Scorn
NONE of the words I would ever want used to describe my actions toward the Lord!!!

Anyway,  after I wrote the words with a pencil I drew the t-bone steak hanging off the fork.  It was just kinda hanging there in the air, ... then I saw my opportunity to use the "t" in the steak..... Way better! :-)

Just a word about that... If the Lord took both of them out for taking the meat, He literally had them killed!..., can you imagine how reeeeeallly bothered He is when any of the 10 Commandments are treated with contempt.  And right now, specifically I am thinking about not using his name in vain because I bet there isn't a day that goes by that I don't hear "GD" on tv!!!  Seriously!  I will be watching a seemingly innocent movie and all of a sudden out comes those two words!  I HATE IT!  And herein lies the problem of taking the 10 Commandments away ... people need to be reminded that there is a price to pay for throwing His name around!

  • 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Anyway... moving on ...
Below is a really sad picture of Samuel asleep next to the ark of the covenant when the Lord spoke to him.

As I was reading, and quick drawing, I drew four different arks so I decided that since the ark is mentioned tons of times in the Old Testament I would create a page of "ark stickers" with my Cricut and label paper.  Gotta love that!  Now I just have to peel them off and stick them down.

The same is true about the priests so I printed and cut a sheet of those as well...

Now I'm ready! ... for those two things anyway
